Power Systems Intern - Summer 2026

Jacobs Solutions Inc.Cary, NC
56d$48,000 - $65,000Hybrid

About The Position

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good. The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to accommodate regional and global decarbonization and energy transition targets. Underground and subsea cable technology are, in particular, increasingly becoming a major player in this energy paradigm shift to enable large-scale renewable energy generation, such as offshore wind, green hydrogen or large interconnectors. As a Power System Studies Intern, you will closely work with regional and global power systems teams to support system studies projects at various stages of their lifecycle (i.e. from the technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, to close-out). You will gain exposure to a variety of clients including renewable developers, transmission owner/developers as well as utilities and blend your theoretical knowledge with practical application. You will perform power system studies both internal to the plant (including, but not limited to, load flow, short circuit, insulation coordination, TOV, arc flash and harmonics) and external to the plant (related to interconnection to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements as well as NERC standards). To be successful in this role you will need to a solid foundation of technical knowledge in power system modeling and analysis. Ideally, you will have previous research or internship experience working with renewable generation while interning at an engineering firm or utility. If you're up for the challenge, we've been looking for someone just like you.
