About The Position

The Power Plant Technician A operates, monitors, and maintains plant equipment to ensure reliable, safe and efficient operation of the plant systems. This is a full-time hourly position located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This position requires Kendall UWUA Local 369 Union membership and reports to the Operations Manager. The hourly rate for this position is $56.07. Note, the license a candidate possesses can increase the wage. There are two vacancies for this position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Holds and maintains a Massachusetts Third Class Engineers License
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience operating gas turbines, high pressure boilers, steam turbines, and Heat Recover Steam Generators.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, monitors, and responds to normal and abnormal operating conditions of power plant equipment and auxiliaries.
  • Takes readings and maintains records and logs.
  • Records equipment problems on work notifications/requests and documents maintenance actions taken.
  • Perform water chemistry analysis and make feeds and adjustments to maintain proper chemical control.
  • Work with water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program.
  • Operate and regenerate water treatment equipment.
  • Assists in developing operating procedures.
  • Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration, of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions.
  • Visually inspects and listens to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • Uses facility operating procedures to operate facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within acceptable parameters.
  • Opens and closes valves as required for proper system operation and mechanical isolation.
  • Opens and closes circuit breakers up to 480 volts as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
  • Performs all duties defined in Safety policies and procedures as assigned, not limited to but including lock- out/ tag out of equipment including taking responsibility as Authorized Employee (This includes independent verification).
  • Maintain assigned cleaning station
  • Understands and complies with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs.
  • Follow all plant environmental permits.
  • Assists other job classifications as assigned when combined cycle major equipment and boilers are not in operation.
  • This position works a rotating shift schedule.
