The Power Plant Operator will be responsible for: Production of campus utilities; Operation of all equipment used in the production of campus utilities; Identifying problems when they occur and making the necessary corrections; maintaining equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation; understanding complex operating systems; maintenance of the utility distribution system includes regular inspections, proactive preventative maintenance programs, performing repairs when necessary, replacement of failed or outdated components, and the installation of new systems. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Required license in the following skilled trades: Journeyman Electrician according to ACA 17-28-304 (Journeyman Electrical License) or HVAC Mechanics according to ACA 17-33-301 (HVAC Mechanics License)
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • At least five years of experience in chosen skilled trade
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Knowledge of methods, best practices, safety procedures, laws, and regulations relating to Utility Plant Operations and Mechanical Code
  • Ability to read blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and one-line drawings
  • Ability to use power tools, machinery, and hand tools associated with the skilled trades
  • Must be able to work varying hours and be able to work for extended periods of time when necessary
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand for extended periods, open/close valves, reach overhead, and bend at the waist and knees
  • Must have the ability to evaluate situations and make good decisions based on sound judgment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with chillers and boilers
  • Boiler Operator’s License
