About The Position

This position is not eligible for remote work. Regular, in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs. This position will receive practical training in and learn the basics of power plant and related systems, subsystems, equipment and facilities maintenance and operations; assist in performing minor maintenance and greasing, and work as helper on other maintenance and overhaul work; maintain compliance records, maintain and inventory personal protective equipment, and make accurate entries in logs and reports; load and unload trucks using a fork truck and stock parts and equipment; act as a confined space attendant; and will maintain and clean various areas of the power plant as directed. Regular in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs. In addition to an initial drug test at hire, the employer conducts random monthly drug testing throughout the year. Requirements

  • Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to pass a Mechanical Aptitude/Hands-On Assessment with emphasis in heavy equipment, factory maintenance and/or mechanic environment
  • Casual knowledge of industry standard components
  • Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds with occasional lifting over 75 pounds
  • Provides own hand tools
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position; must be able to drive a University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification
  • Possession of a valid MSU Forklift, Toolcat, Tractor, and Loader Operator's Permit upon completion of probationary or trial period
  • Knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet
