About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a professional, innovative, and detail-oriented individual for a Power Engineering Internship within their R&D Protection Systems department in Pullman, WA. This role is ideal for current students looking to develop electrical/power engineering skills, learn from industry-leading engineers, and enhance academic learning. The intern will work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer. SEL invents, designs, and builds digital products and systems that protect power grids globally, preventing blackouts and improving power system reliability and safety at a reduced cost. As a 100 percent employee-owned company headquartered in Pullman, Washington, SEL has manufactured products in the United States since 1984 and serves customers worldwide, with a mission to make electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical.

Requirements

  • Current student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with at least two years of technical coursework completed
  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems
  • Experience with MATLAB or MathCAD programming and object-oriented/script files
  • Some experience with power system emulators and logic analyzers
  • Practical knowledge of SEL protective relays and automation controllers
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Providing Technical support to SEL staff & customers
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge in SEL processes and technologies
  • Performing testing on new and existing technology
  • Documenting and communicating test results
