About The Position

About the Team The Compute team designs advanced AI systems, working across workload modeling and hardware co-design. We collaborate closely with partners to integrate system and data center design and are seeking engineers to help create solutions for data center applications. This team works with partners to optimize hardware for AI workloads, evaluate emerging technologies, and bring hardware platforms into production. If you’re excited to work at the intersection of deep learning and data center design, this role is for you! About the Role We’re looking for mechanical system design engineers with deep expertise in mechanical systems and strong system-level design experience. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. In this role, you will:

Requirements

  • Have at least 6 years of industry experience designing hardware systems for data center applications, including power circuit, DC/DC converter design, and power integrity design.
  • Hold a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Bring a strong bias toward action and persistence in solving challenges.
  • Have system design experience across mechanical and product design, from board to data center level.
  • Have a strong intrinsic desire to learn and a talent for clearly sharing knowledge with others.
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and rapidly changing conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead board and system power design and power integrity for AI systems in data center applications.
  • Collaborate with board, rack, and system engineers, as well as design partners, to drive power delivery solutions at board and system levels.
  • Analyze performance, cost, reliability, and availability trade-offs.
  • Innovate and design onboard power conversion specifications and solutions (e.g., hotswaps, single-phase/multi-phase voltage regulators, LDOs, intermediate bus converters); evaluate design trade-offs for AI hardware and system design.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and methodologies to improve power delivery performance in data center product design.
  • Lead projects involving new technologies or novel applications of existing technologies.
  • Partner with industry leaders to evaluate and adopt the most compelling technologies.
  • Engage cross-functionally to ensure roll-out, testing, and validation.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction while troubleshooting system-level power delivery issues.
