About The Position

General Statement of Duties: Performs a variety of operational and instructional duties related to the following Art and Education Programs: Youth and Adult Pottery. Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Arts Enrichment Coordinator. Supervision Exercised: None JOB DESCRIPTION: Examples of Duties: The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and not to be construed as all inclusive. Instructs classes within the Pottery area for youth and adult classes. Fulfills role as lab monitor including loading, firing, unloading kilns, mixing glazes, cleaning, monitoring supplies and assisting students as needed. Plans and prepares innovative and challenging class curriculum for children and adults. Responsible for facilitating Pottery Birthday Parties when scheduled. Responsible for keeping the pottery studio clean and organized, including tables, cubby areas, kiln and glazing room, and maintaining cleanliness of wheels, sinks, slab roller and other equipment. Manages pottery sales with the sale of items. Performs related duties as assigned and required. Physical and Environmental Standards: Must be able to repeatedly sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push, and pull. Must be able to type, write, use a calculator, use a computer, and answer the telephone. Must possess the ability to use the telephone/cellphone to talk and hear. The ability to communicate face-to-face is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Must be able to properly lift/move 20 pounds unassisted and 40 pounds with help. Must be able conduct classes at all four (4) recreation facilities.

Requirements

  • Background in art programming for youth and adults.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written formats with staff and members.
  • Ability to understand and interpret rules and regulations which govern the HRCA membership.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and present data in report format.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers and HRCA membership.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Two years in youth and adult clay arts programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in art or other related area from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Workshops and Certifications will be considered.
