About The Position

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Colorectal Surgery is seeking a full-time Post Doctoral Scholar to work on campus in Hershey, PA. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in inflammatory bowel disease research. They will be responsible for performing a variety of job duties, including: Immunohistochemical analysis of human intestinal tissue segments Establishing and maintaining 3D intestinal epithelial organoid cultures Developing differentiated human intestinal monolayer systems derived from organoid cultures as an experimental modality Detailed analysis of epithelial monolayers using confocal microscopy Propagation of bacteria and probiotics to assess integrity of epithelial barrier Developing hypotheses, writing manuscripts and grant proposals, presenting research both on campus and at national/international conferences. Providing mentorship to graduate students and staff in the lab.

Requirements

  • Prospective candidates holding a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related field are eligible to apply.
  • Life sciences (Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, etc.) PhDs with computational experience are also eligible for this position.
  • PhD candidates who submitted their doctoral thesis can also apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in assessing intestinal epithelial barrier function, confocal microscopy and bacterial culturing is preferred but not required for the position.
