About The Position

We seek a postdoctoral researcher with multi-disciplinary interests and experience in ultrasonics/seismology, rock mechanics and physics-informed machine learning. The research involves both laboratory work and the development of machine learning models for field scale applications. The successful candidate will work within Penn State Ultrasonics Lab (PennSUL) with graduate students on research activities related to projects led by Parisa Shokouhi ( [email protected] ) and Jacques Rivière ( [email protected] ). Laboratory work will include working with servo-hydraulic testing machines to carry out fault reactivation experiments with active and passive (acoustic emission) ultrasonic monitoring. Both laboratory and field work will include the development of physics-informed machine learning models to predict micro-seismicity. We encourage applications from researchers with backgrounds in acoustics, geomechanics and geophysics.
