About The Position

The Texas A&M College of Ve terinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) is an institution that represents 100 years of growth from a small school of ve terinary medicine in 1916 to its present role as a major ve terinary educational, medical, and research center. Today, we are one of the largest schools of ve terinary medicine in the United States, training nearly 600 Doctor of Ve terinary Medicine students each year. We support collaboration and teamwork that turns today's disco ve ries into proacti ve solutions for animals, humans, and the environment. Together, we stri ve to support the goals of the faculty, staff and students in teaching, research and outreach programs . The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for conducting research into their field of expertise. This one to two-year research training will be housed within the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences and is aimed at providing veterinarians with hands-on training, mentorship, and experience in several aspects of preclinical and clinical musculoskeletal/orthopedic research. Training areas will include all aspects of experimental and preclinical research, including in-vitro cell and tissue culture, molecular biology techniques, and quantitative histology, developing clinically relevant ex-vivo and in-vivo large animal models for investigating musculoskeletal disorders, data analysis and presentation, and manuscript preparation.

Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree

Nice To Haves

  • Prior to DVM degree a bachelor’s degree in biology, animal sciences, or a related field
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated eagerness to acquire new skills and ability to work independently

Responsibilities

  • Research operations
  • With oversight, conducts procedures and techniques in the laboratory for ongoing research projects
  • Reviews literature relating to possible procedures and experiments.
  • Modifies procedures to suit the research need.
  • Assists trainees and other laboratory personnel in analyses and experiments for team projects.
  • Assists in research planning to ensure efficiency of research projects.
  • Evaluates and analyzes results from experiments
  • Ensure research complies with safety and regulatory protocols, including IACUC guidelines
  • Data Management
  • Maintain comprehensive research records
  • Contribute by analyzing/preparing data for presentations and scientific manuscripts/publications
  • Assist with data analysis using Statistical Analysis Software
  • Team collaboration and problem solving
  • Engage in weekly lab meetings to discuss progress, troubleshoot ongoing experiments and plan future research
  • Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of data
  • Assist in the development and refinement of lab protocols and participate in proposing alternative research techniques/methodologies
