Duties/Responsibilities: - Develop and conduct research activities on novel genetic technologies capable of influencing the transmission of engineered transgenes in insects. Duties will include designing synthetic DNA constructs; obtaining and analyzing transgenic insect strains; scoring patterns of heredity; and performing molecular analyses of integrated transgenes/gene expression. May assist in the supervision of technical staff and may assist and supervise graduate and undergraduate students. - Record and analyze data/results; report research through regular oral presentations and published in a timely manner in refereed journals; assist with research grant project reports; and keep abreast of all current literature on subject matter, etc. - Other job related duties as required/needed. Required Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or closely related field. Preferred Experience: Demonstrated research experience/background/training in molecular biology techniques. Demonstrated experience in genetics and manipulation of insects, gene expression analysis, as well as familiarity with the principles of biological containment; manuscript writing experience. Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively use personal computer to communicate, prepare proposals to include cost information on spread sheets as applicable and provide reports of activities; ability to effectively communicate with faculty, students and staff; familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment; ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others; ability to perform various molecular biology and genetic techniques; ability to analyze data and write reports; detail oriented with ability to organize tasks and prioritize work with minimal supervision; and able to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Other Requirements or Other Factors: Work may require standing/sitting at work bench for extended periods of time.
