About The Position

The Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (VMPM) at Iowa State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position. We seek a highly motivated researcher to develop and evaluate vaccines and immunomodulatory interventions to protect against respiratory viral diseases. This position will involve in vitro screening of vaccine and immunomodulatory candidates, as well as in vivo testing using animal models. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to multiple research projects, including studies focused on diseases of veterinary importance. The Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (VMPM) in Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine supports a mission of teaching, research, and service. The department focuses on advancing animal health, public health, and food safety through applied research and instruction in bacteriology, immunology, virology, microbiology, epidemiology, and public health.

Requirements

  • PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Preventive Medicine or related field

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years of experience working with mammalian cell culture models
  • Experience in vaccine development, including immunogenicity and efficacy testing in murine or other mammalian models
  • Demonstrated experience working with animal models of respiratory infectious disease
  • Proficiency with immunological assays, including ELISA, flow cytometry, multiplex assays, and western blotting
  • Experience mentoring or supervising undergraduate and graduate students

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate vaccines and immunomodulatory interventions to protect against respiratory viral diseases
  • Involve in vitro screening of vaccine and immunomodulatory candidates
  • In vivo testing using animal models
  • Contribute to multiple research projects, including studies focused on diseases of veterinary importance
  • Actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts and technical reports
  • Provide support for grant-writing and funding initiatives
