About The Position

A molecular postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Yasmin Hurd at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City within the Departments of Psychiatry and Neuroscience and Pharmacological Sciences. NIH-funded research is directed towards molecular neurobiological studies of drug addiction and related psychiatric disorders. A major emphasis of the research is on epigenetic contributions to drug addiction. The current project focuses on developmental effects of cannabis, but the research program is also relevant to studies of opioid use disorders.

Requirements

  • Candidates should have a strong background in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology and/or protein biochemistry.
  • At least 3 years experience with molecular techniques.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and statistical softwares.
  • In addition to strong experimental and theoretical knowledge, good organizational, writing and communication skills are also important.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • S/He will be responsible for carrying out high-throughput transcriptomic and epigenomic studies using tissue obtained from postmortem brain specimens of human drug abusers and animal models of addiction.
  • Studying epigenetic and molecular processes in peripheral specimens are also conducted based on the strong integration between the basic and clinical units within the Hurd translational laboratory.
  • Data from genetic screening of individuals with substance use disorders are also integrated with gene expression and epigenetic datasets.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for developing projects using molecular and biochemical assays such as RNA-sequencing, ChIP-sequencing, quantitative PCR and western blotting on postmortem brain specimens from human drug abusers and animal models.
