A full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available in the Departments of Life Sciences, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences ( www.acphs.edu ). The candidate will join an NIH-funded program at the laboratory of Dr. Shi to investigate the activation of human host innate immune response by HIV-1 infection. The project aims to identify novel mechanisms of innate immune response, including production of type one interferon, to address questions underling host immune protection as well as immunopathogesis upon HIV-1 infection. The approaches range from molecular biology, virology and immunology to various human immune cell cultures to support study of HIV-1 infection in different modes. We seek applicants who are self-motivated and career-oriented to join an exciting and highly interactive research team. Contingent upon successful progress during the first year, this position is anticipated to be renewed for a second year. The applicant should have strong hands-on laboratory skills in mammalian cell culture, basic molecular biology, and virology with considerable understanding of immunology and infectious diseases. Experience in human primary immune cell culture, 3-dimensional cell culture system, confocal microscope, and advanced bioinformatic analysis is strongly preferred. The candidate should be able to design experiments, interpret data, and communicate findings clearly, and be interested in working collaboratively with graduate and undergraduate students at the laboratory. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This on-site position is based in Albany, NY. The duties and responsibilities of this particular role require the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or interaction with our community, requiring all work to be performed full-time on-site.
