About The Position

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Science of Learning and Metacognition Lab (SLAM lab; https://sites.edb.utexas.edu/slam/) under the primary mentorship of Veronica Yan, Ph.D. The lab’s research integrates cognitive, socio-motivational and educational psychology approaches to empower learners to better manage their own learning. Salary and benefits are competitive. The initial appointment is for one year (starting 8/1/2026) with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement and funding availability. Applicants with potential availability for 2 years are strongly preferred. The review of the applications will begin February 28 and will continue until the position is filled. The Postdoctoral Fellow will serve a unique and integral role within the SLAM lab, helping with the design, implementation, and evaluation of different in-class and/or online interventions to support self-regulated learning in undergraduates. This position also allows for the opportunity to develop independent projects within the laboratory. The position is funded through the NSF Grant #2238567, “CAREER: Motivating Effective Strategies to Transform Student Learning.”

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in Psychology, Educational Psychology, or related field (earned less than three years prior to start date)
• Expertise in cognitive learning science, metacognition, and motivation
• Experience in quantitative data analyses in R

Nice To Haves

• Experience programming tasks (e.g., jspsych, Qualtrics)
• Experience with timeseries or longitudinal data analysis
• Experience with qualitative or mixed-methods analyses
• Other highly desirable skills: Experience with communication of science to general audiences
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Strong writing skills
• Mentorship of undergraduates
