About The Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee. The Capstone College of Nursing invites applications for a full time Postdoctoral Research Fellow with a focus on chronic disease prevention and management in rural communities. This position provides robust opportunities for scholarly development, manuscript and grant writing, mentorship, and career preparation for a future faculty or research career. Works closely with faculty mentor(s) to advance research that enhances preventive care strategies and addresses and improves health outcomes for rural populations experiencing high burdens of chronic conditions (e.g., substance use, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, infectious diseases).

Requirements

  • PhD in Nursing, Public Health, Health Services Research, Behavioral Science, Epidemiology, or a related discipline.
  • Must have valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.
  • Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with relevant research methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Alabama in good standing; OR licensure eligible.
  • Prior experience working with rural populations.
  • Demonstrated research interest in chronic disease prevention or management, rural health.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., publications, presentations).
  • Experience with community-based research or implementation science.
  • Training in advanced statistical methods, qualitative methodologies, or mixed methods.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) data, large data sets, or geospatial analysis.
  • A record of submitting external funding applications (e.g., F31, T32, foundation grants).
