About The Position

The Montague & LaMantia laboratories at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute are seeking a postdoctoral associate who is a physiologist or cellular neuroscientist with excellent quantitative skills and some experience in molecular and genetic approaches in animal models. The Montague & LaMantia labs are currently developing new hypotheses and approaches to understand consequence of impaired dopamine signaling in Parkinson’s disease for distinct forebrain circuits: particularly cortical versus striatal targets. This position is an excellent opportunity for a biologically trained investigator to expand their analytical skills, learn new methods in machine learning, human physiology and cellular/molecular approaches in relevant animal models, and to understand the roles of the neuromodulator dopamine in distinct circuits that are targets of pathology in human neurodegenerative diseases.

Requirements

  • PhD focused on cellular neuroscience, neurophysiology, computer science, mathematics, computational neuroscience, physics or other appropriate disciplines. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
  • Demonstrate experience relevant to making electrophysiological or electrochemical measurements with the desire to pursue both in conscious human subjects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with human recordings and functional MRI.
  • Some exposure or experience with mouse genetic models of human disease.
  • Demonstrated track record of research excellence as indicated by peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
