About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Associate to join a multidisciplinary research team focused on developing energy-efficient and fault-tolerant AI systems that can operate reliably in the radiation-rich environment of space. The project integrates expertise across multiple levels—from circuits and architectures to algorithms, models, and systems—and includes opportunities for radiation testing at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI and space electronics, while collaborating with leading researchers at both Stony Brook University and BNL. Under the supervision of Professor Emre Salman in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Stony Brook University, the successful candidate will: Conduct independent research in electrical engineering with applications in robust and efficient AI systems; design and develop circuits, methodologies, research experiments aligned with project goals. Analyze and evaluate experimental and simulation data using advanced and specialized techniques. Prepare manuscripts and technical reports for publication, present findings at lab meetings and potentially at conferences and seminars. Manage lab operations, including mentoring or supervising undergraduate and/or graduate students and research staff; provide training in research methods. Assist in grant writing and preparation of research proposals; identify funding opportunities and participate in training activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related field, completed by the start date of the appointment. U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Research experience in at least one of the following areas: ● Chip design, tape-out, and testing, preferably with applications to AI systems ● Design, analysis, and modeling of AI hardware such as deep neural network accelerators or neuromorphic computing. ● Emerging AI/ML models and hardware/software co-design for AI applications. ● Radiation testing of electronic systems, with an emphasis on single event effects.
  • At least three years of research experience (including during PhD studies) in at least one of the following areas: ● Chip design, tape-out, and testing, preferably with applications to AI systems ● Design, analysis, and modeling of AI hardware such as deep neural network accelerators or neuromorphic computing. ● Emerging AI/ML models and hardware/software co-design for AI applications. ● Radiation testing of electronic systems, with an emphasis on single event effects.
