As a bold and creative scientist, you will explore how purine shortage—induced by targeted drugs—can serve as a powerful therapeutic avenue in prostate cancer. Working under the mentorship of a Duke faculty leader, you will develop your independent research program, contribute to high-impact publications, and build the foundation for your future academic or research career.

Requirements

  • A PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g., MD, ScD, DVM).
  • Candidates who have completed all degree requirements but await formal conferral may be considered with proper documentation.
  • International candidates must hold conferred degrees to meet visa eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct full-time, independent research activities focused on prostate cancer metabolism, with emphasis on purine depletion as a therapeutic mechanism.
  • Design, execute, and interpret experiments while maintaining rigorous scientific standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers across Duke to advance project outcomes.
  • Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive laboratory records, which remain Duke property.
  • Receive structured mentorship to help prepare for a long-term academic or research career.
  • Engage in open, timely dialogue with your mentor regarding research goals, professional development, and scientific integrity.
  • Model collegiality and uphold the Duke School of Medicine Honor Code.
  • Adhere to Duke University and federal standards related to ethical research conduct, laboratory safety, and the use of biological, chemical, animal, or human research materials.
