About The Position

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the department of Radiology. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate for a two-year appointment (with the possibility of extension) in Dr. Yicun Wang's neuroimaging laboratory in the Department of Radiology at Stony Brook University. The successful candidate will lead efforts to quantify multi-scale neurofluid dynamics, including blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid movement, using state-of-the-art MRI methods alongside simultaneous physiological monitoring. The Postdoctoral Associate should possess good verbal and written communication skills in English, the ability to work productively and independently in a collaborative environment, strong problem-solving skills, and be willing to provide mentorship to junior members in the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Recent Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or Python.
  • Prior experience with Neuroimaging analysis (using FSL, AFNI, SPM, etc.)
  • At least one journal publication as first author.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background in MRI physics.
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens MRI scanners.
  • Proficient in integrated MRI-physiological signal analysis.
  • Proficient with Linux.

Responsibilities

  • Data acquisition: operate a 3 T Siemens Prisma Fit (and additional 3 T systems if desired) to collect structural and dynamic MRI data.
  • Quantitative analysis: develop pipelines for dynamic MRI and physiological data; integrate multimodal metrics to uncover fluid-flow interactions.
  • Clinical collaboration, working closely with neurologists and neurosurgeons on studies of healthy aging and hydrocephalus as well as other patient cohorts.
  • Dissemination and mentorship: present results at conferences, prepare manuscripts for peer reviewed journals, and mentor graduate students and research assistants.
  • Additional opportunities include MRI pulse sequence development based on Pulseq and/or reconstruction methods across multiple 3T platforms; participation in collaborative projects such as longitudinal quantitative MRI of brain aging and PET/MRI of neuroinflammation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
