The Zhan Lab focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The MPNs are clonal stem cell disorders characterized by neoplastic hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell expansion over wild-type cells, overproduction of mature blood cells, and increased risk of cardiovascular complications. Using molecular and genetic techniques in transgenic murine models, MPN patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell lines, and primary patient samples, we study the hematopoietic microenvironment niche, clonal competition, and cardiovascular pathology in MPNs. The ultimate goal of our research is to develop more effective therapies for patients with MPNs and other clonal hematologic malignancies. The Postdoctoral Associate will support basic science and pre-clinical research. The ideal candidate shall possess strong scientific and technical skills, critical thinking ability, and a thoughtful approach to troubleshooting. A strong work ethic, resilience, and motivation are essential, along with openness to developing a research niche that complements ongoing projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also required.
