About The Position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the Child Health Institute of NJ at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will assist in multiple aspects of the lab's research, including study design, data collection, study management, data analysis, interpretation of findings, and dissemination of results. The research program is focused on understanding prenatal determinants, such as extracellular vesicles and steroid hormones, that shape brain development and behavior. The Postdoctoral Associate is expected to maintain a high level of communication with the PI and will manage the day-to-day operations of the lab, including the training of new lab junior personnel and purchase requests for lab supplies. The Postdoctoral Associate will be responsible for conducting specialized research experiments in the laboratory, collecting necessary biospecimens for the research, and conducting assessments of the study participants. The Postdoctoral Associate will participate in lab meetings, research in progress seminars, and presentations at conferences. They will prepare manuscripts based on their research, aid in developing the PI's grant applications, and will be expected to apply for personal grant funding. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, isolates extracellular vesicles (EVs) from human blood samples to quantify EV concentration and examine cargo material using techniques such as RNA sequencing (RNAseq), Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), and immunoprecipitation (IP). Maintains and differentiates human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into specific cell lineages using established protocols and assist with the design and execution of co-culturing experiments. Tracks participant progress and completion of study procedures. Communicates with participants both verbally and through written communications. Maintains regular, professional contact with study participants and schedule study visits (remote and in-person) in a timely manner. Conducts infant and child neurobehavioral assessments.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent degree in neuroscience, neurobiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, psychology, genetics, pharmacology, or a related science field required.
  • Must have experience with and/or working knowledge of multiple experimental techniques, including one or more of the following techniques: PCR, RT-qPCR, ELISA, RNAseq, isolation of extracellular vesicles/exosomes, cell culture, iPSC differentiation, or conducting child neurodevelopmental assessments.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, have excellent organizational skills, and be able to work collaboratively and independently under the guidance of the PI.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with experimental techniques including one or more of the following: PCR, RT-qPCR, ELISA, RNAseq, isolation of extracellular vesicles/exosomes, cell culture, iPSC differentiation, or conducting child neurodevelopmental assessments, preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills with experience in writing grants, fellowships, manuscripts, or scientific reports strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, preferred.
