About The Position

Established in 1930, Duke University School of Medicine is the youngest of the nation's top medical schools. Ranked sixth among medical schools in the nation, the School takes pride in being an inclusive community of outstanding learners, investigators, clinicians, and staff where interdisciplinary collaboration is embraced and great ideas accelerate translation of fundamental scientific discoveries to improve human health locally and around the globe. Composed of more than 2,600 faculty physicians and researchers, nearly 2,000 students, and more than 6,200 staff, the Duke University School of Medicine along with the Duke University School of Nursing, and Duke University Health System comprise Duke Health, a world-class academic medical center. The Health System encompasses Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, Duke Health Integrated Practice, Duke Primary Care, Duke Home Care and Hospice, Duke Health and Wellness, and multiple affiliations. The Department of Pharmacology & Cancer Biology seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to join Dr. David MacAlpine's research laboratory. The MacAlpine laboratory investigates the mechanisms by which chromatin architecture regulates fundamental DNA-templated processes including DNA replication, transcription, and DNA repair. Our research uses the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system to understand how chromatin assembles and matures during DNA replication and how chromatin dynamics influence genome stability and the repair of DNA double-strand breaks. Our research integrates genomic approaches, computational biology, and molecular genetics to achieve base-pair resolution mapping of chromatin landscapes. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will design and conduct independent and collaborative experiments to investigate chromatin assembly behind the replication fork and/or chromatin dynamics during DNA repair. You will have the opportunity to develop expertise in genomics, computational analysis, and high-resolution chromatin mapping techniques. Opportunities also exist to extend these computational and genomic tools to mammalian systems in collaboration with departmental colleagues.

Requirements

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related sciences
