The Postdoctoral Associate will work on an NIH-funded project focusing on the role of alkaline ceramidase 2 (ACER2) in chemotoxicity in cancer patients in Dr. Cungui Mao’s laboratory in the department of Medicine and Cancer Center at Stony Brook University. ACER2 is a member of the alkaline ceramidase (ACER) family, originally identified in humans by the Mao lab. The lab previously demonstrated that ACER2 mediates various cellular responses by regulating bioactive sphingolipids, such as ceramides, sphingosine, and sphingosine-1-phosphate. Recent findings from the lab indicate that ACER2 plays an important role in mediating adverse events of chemotherapeutic agents, such as myelosuppression.
