About The Position

The Biomass Analysis Technologies team within the BEST directorate at NREL is seeking is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented post-undergraduate intern for a 9-month, full-time position. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a laboratory-scale project focused on rapid lignocellulosic biomass conversion, providing hands-on experience from project initiation to completion, increasing understanding the understanding of feedstock and process variability on biomass yields. The selected candidate will work closely with a mentor and will gain valuable laboratory and project management experience, including working with their mentor to: Design and perform laboratory experiments, Operate analytical and laboratory instruments Manage a project timeline with defined benchmarks and milestones Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting experimental data Presenting experimental results to external clients This position is ideal for individuals who have recently graduated with a bachelor's degree and are preparing to pursue a graduate degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline. The role will provide direct exposure to state-of-the-art research, a collaborative and supportive laboratory environment, and the opportunity to develop both technical and project management skills. Successful candidates will leave with a strong foundation in biomass conversion research, NREL Laboratory Analytical Procedures (LAPs), and other applied laboratory methods that can be leveraged in advanced academic or professional settings. Requirements

  • Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution.
  • Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
  • Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution.
  • Post Graduate: Earned a master's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
  • Graduate + PhD: Completed master's degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.
  • Applicants are responsible for uploading official or unofficial school transcripts, as part of the application process.
  • If selected for position, a letter of recommendation will be required as part of the hiring process.
  • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree chemistry, biochemistry, physics, or related field
  • Successful candidates will have some experience in instrumental analysis
  • Demonstrate significant attention to detail.
  • Clear record keeping skills with special attention to data traceability
  • Strong communications skills
