About The Position

The Post Doctoral Researcher will work with the Center for Neutron Science with Prof. Norman Wagner of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering of the University of Delaware along with instrument scientists and engineers from NIST on a project with the National Science Foundation to complete the warm commissioning of the new Neutron Spin Echo (NSE) instrument and conduct research along with a doctoral student on polymer nanocomposites.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a related field such as engineering, materials science, physics, or chemistry is required.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following experimental techniques, particularly in relation to soft matter: neutron, x-ray and/or light scattering, x-ray scattering.
  • Experience in laboratory methods of physical property characterization techniques, designing experiments and handling of chemicals and polymermaterials.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scientific research utilizing a range of experimental characterization techniques with the focus on Neutron Spin Echo and allied neutron scattering methods.
  • This can involve travel to beamline facilities other than NIST.
  • Supervise undergraduate researcher(s).
  • Complete data acquisition manuals and technical reports with the guidance of the PI and instrument scientists
  • Responsible for data management, analysis, and presentation of results to sponsors and at relevant scientific conferences.
  • Assist in the design, execution, and analysis of NSE experiments at the NCNR.
