About The Position

In this position you will have the opportunity to: map a high grade gold deposit, generate novel Raman spectra to be added to the rruff database, network with mining and exploration geologists, and to develop innovative ideas about ore deposit formation in the Tintina Gold Belt. You will apply the principles of fluid evolution, water-rock interaction, interface coupled dissolution precipitation, chemical reaction kinetics, and equilibrium thermodynamics to a structurally complex ore body. Post-doctoral researcher to characterize Au-Bi-Te mineralization and precipitation pathways in the Pogo Au deposit, Alaska. The researcher will engage with a thriving academic community in both the Geophysical Institute and the Department of Geosciences and have the opportunity to engage regularly with local industry geologists. The researcher will enjoy access to the mine for regular sampling as new rocks are uncovered. To thrive in this role the successful candidate will have a strong background in mineralogy and geochemistry/petrology. Experience in both academic and mining or mineral exploration systems will be beneficial. Expertise in economic geology is desired but not required. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Geology/Earth Science or a related science field at the time of appointment. Position Details: This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office on the first day of employment. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt, 9-month postdoctoral position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
