About The Position

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico invites applications for Post Doctoral Fellow to work in our research lab. The laboratory focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying pain, specifically investigating the role of circular RNA regulation of nociceptive sensitization. The successful candidate will lead projects utilizing in vivo animal behavioral models of pain, alongside in vitro molecular and cellular assays. We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and independent scientist. The ideal candidate must be able to synthesize complex scientific literature, manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks efficiently, and maintain a collaborative attitude while working with team members at all levels. Albuquerque, New Mexico boasts 300+ sunny days per year and is a prime location for outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, skiing, and more! Albuquerque alone offers more than 400 miles of hiking trails.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Pharmacology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques, specifically RNA extraction, qPCR, Immunocytochemistry/Immunohistochemistry (ICC/IHC), and Western blotting.
  • Proficiency in cell culture techniques, including both primary cultures and immortalized cell lines.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting and analyzing in vivo animal behavioral models.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to move projects forward independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience culturing and maintaining human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs).
  • Previous background in pain research, nociception, or transcriptomics is a plus.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
