About The Position

The UHealth system at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full time postdoctoral scientist in the laboratory of Dr. Priyamvada Rai at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prior experience in cancer research is a pre-requisite for this position as demonstrated by publications. US citizens and permanent residents will be prioritized for this position. SUMMARY The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Rai and senior members of her team to support her basic and translational cancer research in the area of redox biology. Moreover, the postdoctoral scientist, SOM contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field. Is able to develop and expand basic and applied cancer research activities in the lab in accordance with lab goals Has strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the capacity to provide intellectual drive to make progress on the lab’s scientific goals. Has strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and is able to write cohesive manuscript and grant proposal drafts Collaborates with other lab members to complete experiments and publish findings in refereed journals. Provides ready access to all experimental data for managing staff. Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s). Prepares data in accordance with best practices and lab expectations for submission to journals, granting agencies and foundations. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Cancer biology or relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of direct experience in cancer research with reputable publications to support expertise in this area
  • Must have a background in cancer biology and be able to think critically about existing lab projects to advance them to the next level
  • Must be proficient in basic molecular and cell biology techniques including mammaliam cell culture
  • Must have experience with CRISPR and shRNA technology
  • Must have some experience working with vertebrate animal models
  • Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Must be skilled in writing proficiently
  • Must have strong organizing and analytical skills
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions
  • Ability to work efficiently and cooperatively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to adapt quickly and multitask as relevant to the situation
  • Must be willing to occasionally work on weekends and outside of traditional hours
