The University of Pittsburgh Department of Surgery has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Associate. The Department of Surgery's dedication to excellence in research drives our commitment to seek out and train the best of the next generation of biomedical scientists. Job Description: Under the direction of the principal investigator, Dr. Matthew Neal, the Postdoctoral Associate will focus on advancing the mechanistic and translational understanding of the ADAMTS13–von Willebrand factor (vWF) axis in trauma and hemorrhagic shock. Responsibilities will include designing, conducting, and interpreting complex in vivo animal studies to assess changes in ADAMTS13 activity, vWF multimer distribution, and downstream coagulopathy pathways, as well as performing advanced statistical analyses of clinical trial datasets to identify biomarker patterns, outcome associations, and therapeutic implications related to endothelial injury, coagulopathy, and resuscitation strategies. The successful Candidate will execute and optimize a range of biochemical and molecular assays, including enzymatic activity measurements, multimeric analyses, ELISA‑based quantification, and related techniques, to characterize ADAMTS13 and vWF dynamics. Scholarly productivity is expected through the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for peer‑reviewed journals and scientific conferences. The successful Candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across trauma surgery, critical care, hematology, and basic science disciplines, contribute to the training and mentorship of students and laboratory personnel, and perform any other assignments that the principal investigator may request.
