About The Position

A Postdoctoral Associate Position who will be studying signaling and T cell differentiation is available in the laboratory of Dr. William Hawse (Website: https://www.immunology.pitt.edu/people/william-f-hawse-phd) at the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Immunology. The Candidate will be performing research, working a newly funded NIH R01 Grant. The Hawse Laboratory is seeking competitive candidates who have recently earned a PhD and possess effective written and verbal English communication skills, in addition to outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. Experience in studying how T cells are mediators of the adaptive immune response is more broadly is preferred. The Hawse lab also works on Molecular mechanisms that encode TCR signal strength, define mechanisms of cross-talk between TCR and cytokine signaling networks, and determine the proteomic differences that define CD8+ memory T cell recall responses. Job Duties: This position will perform experiments developing a comprehensive suite of mass spectrometry proteomics tools to characterize protein abundance and phosphorylation in pathogenic Th17 cells at the systems level in the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model of MS. This position will train assist Graduate Students, Research Technicians and Pitt Student Workers with their research projects and projects related to signaling and T cell differentiation. Candidates will work directly alongside the PI (Dr. William Hawse) and will develop skills in a wide variety of techniques as described above. The Candidate will also develop several career-related skill sets, including manuscript preparation, oral presentations, and grant writing. Qualifications: Candidate must have earned a PhD/MD Degree in the field of Biology or a related field. The salary is commensurate with experience and is based on current NIH guidelines.
