The MathQuantum RTG (Research Training Group) seeks to hire a postdoctoral fellow working at the intersection of mathematics and quantum information science (QIS). MathQuantum is a community of faculty, postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students, and high school students working on various research problems at the intersection of mathematics and quantum information science. This appointment, offered jointly by IPST (the Institute for Physical Science and Technology) and the Department of Mathematics, has both research and teaching components. Research: The successful applicant is expected to work independently on research projects related to their own interests, while aligning with the vision of MathQuantum to meaningfully intersect mathematics and QIS. Fellows are assigned a general faculty mentor to help navigate their postdoctoral activities, and are expected to engage with one or more UMD faculty (including the MathQuantum RTG senior scientists, https://mathquantum.umd.edu/people/). In collaboration with these faculty, fellows are expected to identify open research questions at the intersection of mathematics and QIS, and come up with creative approaches to address these questions. Teaching: In addition to research activities, there is a teaching load of 3 classes per year of tenure in the Department of Mathematics (e.g. 1 class in Fall and 2 classes in Spring, or 2 classes in Fall and 1 class in Spring).
