About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth department of The Miami Project has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Post Doctoral Associate to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community. Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned. Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories. Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Department Specific Functions Job Summary (Purpose and Function): The Post-Doctoral Fellow will participate in an oncology program in the labs of Dr. Hassan Al Ali and Dr. Jonathan Schatz. The research involves understanding the function and biological behavior of an understudied kinase, which was discovered by the Ali and Schatz lab to be a potential drug target for diffuse large B cell lymphoma. The research will involve biological mechanistic studies, as well as drug discovery approaches that include AI-guided drug design, assay development and automation, Live Cell Painting, and cell- and organoid-based NAMs.

Requirements

  • MD or Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or related field.
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.

  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in assay development, cell-based assays, and biochemical assays is desirable preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct enzymatic assays to test kinase inhibitors.
  • Conduct high content screening and other cell-based assays to screen small molecules.
  • Do routine molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RT-PCR, prepare viral vectors) to support the in vitro and in vivo experiments.
  • Perform immunohistochemical staining, microscopy, and image analysis.
  • Maintain laboratory areas; order lab supplies, participate in weekly lab meetings, including presenting results and methods to group members; plan weekly work schedules. Keep detailed laboratory notebooks and maintain documents relating to standard-operating procedures and vectors. Prepare first drafts of manuscripts.
  • Optional: perform medicinal chemistry synthesis.
  • Optional: perform in vivo experiments using rodent models to test the efficacy of lead candidates.
  • Occasionally assist in training Post Docs, graduate students, undergraduates, and scholars.
