About The Position

We are seeking a POS Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Proxy Product Owner to support a strategic payments programme. This is a highly specialised contractor role for a senior POS expert who can drive, advise, and influence across business and technology teams. The role will act as a proxy Product Owner, bridging the gap between business stakeholders and technical Business Analysts, ensuring that POS requirements are correctly shaped, prioritised, and aligned to real‑world POS payment workflows. A deep understanding of the POS market, payment acceptance models, and end‑to-end POS payment flows is critical to success in this role. This is a relocation opportunity for anyone open to relocating to Ireland and is fully onsite in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

Requirements

  • Relevant third‑level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in product ownership, business analysis, or similar roles within Payments, POS acquiring, or fintech.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and demonstrable experience in backlog management.
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into product features and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent client‑facing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • People leadership: enabling peer learning, mentoring, and knowledge transfer through designed interventions.
  • Teamwork and emotional intelligence; strong self‑management and consistent performance mindset.
  • Innovative, bold thinker and doer — matching creativity with delivery discipline.
  • High value on openness and transparency.
  • Strong organization and prioritization; proactive in meeting deadlines.
  • Skilled in documentation and presentation (Word, PowerPoint, Visio); proficient in Jira and Confluence.
  • Extensive, hands‑on experience as a POS SME within payments, acquiring, or large-scale POS estate.
  • Deep understanding of POS payment workflows, including card‑present transactions and end‑to-end processing
  • Proven experience advising on or driving POS estate management (e.g. terminal fleets, configuration, lifecycle, rollout considerations)
  • Strong knowledge of the POS market, including common platforms, vendor models, and industry practices
  • Experience working closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and engineering teams in complex delivery environments
  • Ability to operate independently, influence senior stakeholders, and make well‑reasoned recommendations

Responsibilities

  • Act as the SME for POS platforms and estates, advising on topics such as estate management, terminal configuration, lifecycle management, and operational constraints
  • Provide expert input into POS payment workflows, including transaction flows, authorisation, settlement, and exception handling
  • Advise on POS market practices, vendor capabilities, and industry norms to inform solution design and decision‑making
  • Operate as a Proxy Product Owner, translating business goals into clear, prioritised requirements for technical Business Analysts
  • Own and communicate business intent, ensuring technical requirements reflect real commercial and operational needs
  • Support backlog shaping and prioritisation, ensuring POS‑related work delivers maximum value and reduces downstream rework
  • Bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical BAs, resolving ambiguity and providing clear direction on POS‑specific decisions
  • Review and challenge requirements, designs, and assumptions to ensure they are fit for purpose within a POS environment
  • Act as a trusted advisor to delivery teams, helping to unblock issues and accelerate decision‑making
