About The Position

The Portfolio Specialist is a professional development position in the Prospect Development Office within the Office of Advancement. The position manages the portfolios of major and annual gift prospects and collaborates with development officers in schools and units within assigned liaison areas. The position assigns and realigns prospects in development officer portfolios and provides guidance to development officers on portfolio management, goal setting, and collaboration to ensure effective and strategic movement through the fundraising pipeline. This position coordinates with multiple departments within the Office of Advancement including Annual Fund, Major Gifts Program, Principal Gifts, Advancement Information Systems.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience in data-driven research of individuals using industry-standard software, web-based search tools, data management systems, social media, and other methodologies; as well as the MS Office suite.
  • Excellent organization skills, including the ability to manage multiple demands and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and organizational aptitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of two years direct research, development or transferable experience.
  • Transferable experience includes database management, records management, prospect research and/or direct major gift fundraising.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data management in a fundraising context.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
