Your work will have a direct impact on improving patients' lives while working at Pfizer. JOB SUMMARY This position will reside within the Program Management group of R&D Portfolio Innovation. Portfolio Directors may be assigned to specific Category portfolios. Director level colleagues will be expected to oversee a single Category portfolio. They are counted on to provide best in class strategic and operational leadership at the category level & beyond, including: Manage governance processes in order to: Enable proactive and efficient governance/committee interactions and decisions. Clarify and advise asset teams regarding portfolio and category/enterprise governance processes. Provide an expert interface between P&I and organizational partners so that organizational and development considerations are reflected and implemented in portfolio processes across P&I in a consistent fashion. Provide expertise in asset development and portfolio systems in order to design/manage processes that support asset and portfolio resourcing and the collection, aggregation, and analysis of asset and portfolio data. Drive alignment between Category/R&D lines, Category/regions, and among Partner Lines with transparent and timely sharing of information to facilitate efficient portfolio delivery. Provide accurate and timely communication of portfolio events and progress updates to inform decision making in the category, enterprise, and among Partner Lines. Drive optimal utilization of R&D and Partner Line portfolio resources by continually aligning portfolio activities with investment/governance decisions/processes. Provide senior leaders with the necessary tools, information, and insights to make value maximizing portfolio investment and prioritization decisions JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Director, Portfolio Management will be responsible for a mix of services to R&D and the enterprise needs, including varying levels of the following specific responsibility areas: Governance Process Guidance and Management Enable teams to have successful engagements with leadership at key governance interactions by partnering with teams as needed and creating governance process guides and support implementation. Operationally manage governance processes and interactions within the Category, driving to efficiency and clarity in decision-making. Proactively identify governance process improvement opportunities and best practices. Leverage portfolio insight to identify issues that require governance decisions and prioritize agendas Ensure decisions required are clearly articulated and leaders have adequate information on which to base decisions Ensure transparent and clear communication of decisions to ensure teams can follow through promptly and appropriately Manage governance communication to ensure appropriate reviews and documentation Perform other related duties as assigned or required. Contribute to/lead the coordination and facilitation of annual operating plan activities, including: Incorporation of category specific strategic visions, functional line inputs and output from process improvement workstream into consolidated operation plan ensuring cohesion and alignment with overarching strategic vision Portfolio Strategy In partnership with R&D leadership, leverage data and generate insights from internal assets, the competitive landscape, and the latest science to drive alignment across the greater Pfizer enterprise on portfolio strategy and priorities. Partner with Category Development and Commercial leads and early Category Development lead on periodic prioritizations of the early (pre-POC/pre-ESOE) portfolio. Portfolio/Business Process Development, Implementation and Optimization Develop portfolio tools, processes and reports to R&D, and other partners in managing programs and portfolios. Identify, recommend, and implement process improvement opportunities to ensure optimal portfolio management within the Category. Portfolio Reporting Compile, analyze, and publish portfolio insights not available in automated reporting tools. Partner with Planning, Scientific Affairs, PDA, Competitive Intelligence, Commercial and other functions to enable the generation of consistent and accurate automated reports on progress against portfolio milestones and deliverables. Provide business insights and analysis that enables decision making at senior levels Produce or contribute to ad hoc reports or information queries. Generate information (reports/presentations) in support of business planning processes. Requirements

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues, and create business impact.
  • Advanced degree highly preferred (MBA, PhD, PharmD).
  • Minimum 3 years of strategic planning experience in a top-tier management consulting firm or in-house strategy team in a biopharmaceutical company
  • Strong knowledge of the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Experience synthesizing and communicating complex information and delivering impactful recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Experience leading complex strategic projects to drive organizational change while balancing potential impacts on the R&D pipeline, financials, and strategic position.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment
  • Strong knowledge of the Portfolio and Project Management discipline and the application of Project Management at the Portfolio level
  • Technical experience and current knowledge of the drug development process
  • Experience managing the delivery of multiple, simultaneous projects
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills; able to independently create polished analyses and communication materials for senior leaders
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively in a matrix environment
  • Must have a strong attention to detail and ability to build quality into reportable products
  • Expertise in analytics, particularly technical data curation and manipulation skills
  • Ability to synthesize data and information from multiple sources to assess and analyze portfolio progress and performance and recommend process improvements
  • Track record of consistently delivering individual and team goals to expectations
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications (Word / Excel / PowerPoint)
  • Proficient organizing, visualizing data, and creating reporting products is required
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
