About The Position

Chiquita is seeking a candidate highly adaptable to changes in the business environment, flexible to working schedules and eager to take accountability for different processes at our facility in Port Everglades, Florida. This position is responsible for port, yard and warehouse operations which includes, but is not limited to, process planning and execution supervision to ensure operational standards, safety, order and cleanliness, cost effectiveness and data integrity. This position has a broad spectrum of responsibilities. The candidate will be given a specific area of supervision and will be exposed to cross training with other areas to be prepared when needed.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required (or relevant experience)
  • 3 years of port and/or yard operations
  • 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Proficient in Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to quickly learn computer information system applications
  • Strong work ethics, goal driven, self-motivated and team player
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Availability for extended working schedules, as well as weekend and holiday work. Schedule can be subject to changes based on business need.

  • Experience in intermodal environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Dispatching
  • Timely assign appointment slots in the Company’s system for fruit orders, liner Southbound trans-loads and liner Northbound pick-ups.
  • Assign fruit orders at least 24 hours in advance following FIFO principle and restrictions based on specific customers.
  • Check drivers in and out picking up “live loads” at the warehouse.
  • Guide the operational team on priority SKUs needed to be discharged from the vessel, to allow the planning of the vessel operation with the goal to fulfill all the fruit orders in a timely manner.
  • Daily reconciliation of orders shipped vs requested to ensure the re-assignment of the fruit if not picked up within 2 days or cancelled by the customer.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service and Accounting the timely return to the inventory of fruit rejected by customers to guarantee inventory accuracy and seek the re-utilization of the fruit for another customer, following Quality and Sales directions.
  • Minimize the loss of fruit through correct assignment and follow-up of fruit inventory..
  • Allocate temperature recorders to the customer’s orders based on the temperature recorder directed by Sales.
  • Ensure the temperature setting instructions are properly printed on the documentation and understood by the carriers and/or operations.
  • Support the Port Operations Manager on placing containers on hold per USDA/CBP and releasing the holds accordingly.
  • Participate in the monthly physical fruit inventory and provide all support needed for the inventory reconciliation report.
  • File all documentation associated with each fruit order dispatched (check-in sheets, pick slips, loading sheets, when necessary, BL, ELR, etc).
  • Support management on any reporting or additional requests as needed.
  • Vessel Operations
  • Ensure process integrity, being the most relevant ones without excluding other business needs: intermodal equipment inspection and any damage reporting as a result of the inspection, temperature validation of liner reefer containers in-gating at Port Everglades, and correct use of cards to facilitate the identification of the container content in the yard.
  • Provide the necessary tools and equipment needed for gate personnel to perform their duties.
  • Ensure a safe operation environment as well as order and cleanliness of the gate and cold dock.
  • Planning of vessel operations (discharge, load back and drayage) balancing customer priority needs with bays to allow an effective cycling of chassis to timely dispatch containers for the load back, minimizing stevedore labor stand-by time and storage at the port.
  • Prepare and distribute the vessel operations reports for discharge and load and complete the corresponding transactions in the system, including the arrival to CBP.
  • Transition liner appointments to MCS appointment system for cold dock transloads and all import and exports.
  • Support on fruit and equipment physical inventory as required.
  • Guarantee the execution of customer’s SOP on the transloads at the cold dock.
  • Coordinate with M&R to execute pre-trip of containers required for export cargo.
  • Coordinate with GWF and Transportation teams on liner export delivery to the yard in compliance with cut off for vessel operation.
  • Coordinate with Yard Supervisor to have liner import equipment and documentation ready to dispatch to customers.
  • Provide the necessary reports to validate stevedore’s and port’s invoices and the reports to bill liner customers on transload, storage and demurrage at Port Everglades yard.
