About The Position

Patients depend on our team for the best in evidence-based care and innovative therapies, such as inhaled nitric oxide, high-frequency oscillation, and invasive and non-invasive ventilator support modalities. Opportunities exist for motivated Registered Respiratory Therapists (and Certified Respiratory Therapy Technicians) with the skills to provide a high level of quality service in a variety of settings including the ED, Trauma and Critical Care. Summary: The Polysomnographic Technologist - Extern assists registered technologists in the area of sleep treatment. The Extern performs various diagnostic sleep studies, aiding in the treatment of sleep disorders.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

  • Complexity of Work: This role requires critical thinking skills, effective communication, decisive judgment, and the ability to build and foster positive relationships. The incumbent must be able to assess the patient study and take appropriate action when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous polysomnography experience preferred.
  • Additional Certification Info: Must be actively pursuing appropriate sleep certification as recognized by the Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Certification must be received within 24 months of starting the position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, calibrates, repairs and maintains equipment required for testing; determines and reports needed repairs/replacements.
  • Interviews patients to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
  • Performs and documents testing, monitoring the patient throughout testing and intervenes, as necessary, to resolve patient needs or equipment issues.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
  • Prepares patients and equipment for ordered testing.
