About The Position

Opportunities exist for motivated Registered Respiratory Therapists (and Certified Respiratory Therapy Technicians) with the skills to provide a high level of quality service in a variety of settings including the ED, Trauma and Critical Care. Summary: The Polysomnographic Technologist - Extern assists registered technologists in the area of sleep treatment. The Extern performs various diagnostic sleep studies, aiding in the treatment of sleep disorders.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

  • Complexity of Work: This role requires critical thinking skills, effective communication, decisive judgment, and the ability to build and foster positive relationships.
  • The incumbent must be able to assess the patient study and take appropriate action when required.
  • Must be actively pursuing appropriate sleep certification as recognized by the Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Certification must be received within 24 months of starting the position.

  • Previous polysomnography experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients and equipment for ordered testing.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
  • Performs and documents testing, monitoring the patient throughout testing and intervenes, as necessary, to resolve patient needs or equipment issues.
  • Interviews patients to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
  • Prepares, calibrates, repairs and maintains equipment required for testing; determines and reports needed repairs/replacements.
