Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Previous patient-facing medical experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and out-of-center sleep testing, therapeutic interventions, and patient care.
  • Documents patient arrival, interactions, and informed consent for testing.
  • Reviews patient history, medical records, and supporting documentation to ensure medical necessity.
  • Acquires additional information from patients or providers to verify the appropriateness of testing parameters.
  • Performs routine Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) interface fitting, desensitization, and patient education.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for all age populations (pediatric, adult, geriatric) seen in the Sleep Lab.
  • Prepares patients for testing per policy, selecting appropriate equipment according to physician orders.
  • Performs equipment and physiologic calibrations to ensure quality data; monitors signals to ensure recordings are artifact-free.
  • Documents routine observations during testing, correlating physiologic data and behavioral observations to facilitate scoring.
  • Assists with appropriate interventions, including patient safety and therapeutic sleep interventions.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing ancillary testing, including oximetry, actigraphy, and home sleep apnea testing.
  • Develops and demonstrates proficiency in distinguishing sleep states and identifying clinical events according to professional guidelines.
  • Follows "Lights On" procedures to verify data integrity and the completeness of test documentation.
  • Performs equipment cleaning and disinfection, ensuring compliance with infection and quality control policies.
  • Assists in requesting and maintaining testing supplies; maintains organization of the work area.
  • Develops effective working relationships; communicates professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Supports and participates in quality and Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives.
