Essential Job functions: A day in the life of a Registered Polysomnographic Tech at Summit Health includes: Responsible for reviewing patient data in preparedness for a PSG. Responsible for hooking patient up with electrodes/monitoring equipment needed to record a PSG; and performing pre-PSG equipment calibrations. Monitors patients throughout the PSG, making notations on patient records every half hour. Administer oxygen and continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure in accordance with established protocols. May perform special procedures such as seizure monitoring, ambulatory monitoring, multiple sleep latency testing, maintenance of wakefulness testing, and end tidal CO2 monitoring. Removes electrodes at the end of the PSG and documents post-PSG findings. Documents dates of completion for each process of interpretation of PSG. Clean all equipment as indicated by Infection Control. Performs inventory on a monthly basis. Collects data for the monthly Performance Improvement reports. Responsible for identifying equipment malfunctions and scheduling proper repair or replacement. Performs the inter-scorer reliability test on a monthly basis. Maintains a neat and clean work environment; cleans all surfaces at the end of their shift. Participates in Journal Club and all staff meetings. Review Sleep Studies with the Physicians/staff. Performs mask fits and CPAP trials (PAP naps) on patients. Completes mandatory Summit Health annual e-Learning. Adheres to Summit Health Organizational competencies and standards of behavior Patient and Equipment Safety Recognize and respond appropriately to patient’s medical problems and physiological events. Ensure safety and welfare of all patients, including those pediatric and psychiatric patients with special needs. If necessary, safely lift and move patient without harm to patient or self. Comply with Universal Infection Control Procedures and standard precautions. Comply with the 7 plans of the environment of care and all related clinical policies and procedures.
