About The Position

A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D.,D.O. or PhD) to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnography Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide supervision of other staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider CPR certification required upon hire or within 90 days of employment.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required when scheduled.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred RPSGT license or willing to train RN/LPN or RRT
  • Previous experience in EEG, pediatric sleep and working knowledge of human anatomy.
  • Effective customer service, interpersonal, and strong communications skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Performs hook-ups and monitoring on all Sleep Center procedures according to department and American Academy of Sleep Medicine standards.
  • Procedures include standard Polysomnography, Polysomnography with seizure montage, Polysomnography with Cpap, Bipap, oxygen, Multiple Sleep Latency Test, and Multiple Wakefulness Test.
  • Scores patient studies following established guidelines in the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events.
  • Stocks, cleans and maintains equipment, laboratory areas, storerooms, and patient care areas.
  • Performs basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Assists in the maintenance and handling of patient records for scoring, storage, preparation of patient charges, mailings, collection and graphing of sleep diaries, etc.
  • Completes various patient care and related support documentation appropriately.
  • Assist supervisor and medical director in the preparation and implementation of orientation, education, and competency programs. Mentors new employees, and students under the direction of the supervisor and medical director.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new equipment.
  • Assist in quality improvement projects under the direction of the supervisor and medical director.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
