Polysomnographer Position Highlights: Job Type: Full-Time Location: Sleep Lab Schedule: 12-hour night shifts Responsibilities: Provides appropriate patient care for sleep study patients. Provides Sleep Study on assigned patients in a timely manner by applying electrodes, belts, and sensors, performing bio-calibration, monitoring polysomnogram, splitting study when criteria is met, providing therapy oxygen, CPAP, or BiPAP per policy as indicated, concluding study with review of data with patient, cleaning & storage of equipment, and preparing room for next study. Provides staging and scoring of data by reviewing study staging each epoch between lights off and lights on and identifying sleep disorders RERA, hypopnea, apnea according to AASM scoring guidelines. Documents the patient record per departmental standards. Prepares Patient Notes by documenting tests, responding to therapy, any side effects, and patient/family teaching. Reviews physician order, review of patient chart including appropriate lab work, diagnostics, consultations, and nursing assessment/notes. Completes billing in a timely manner, usually within 24 hrs of service. Provides appropriate teaching or mentoring to patients, students or other ancillary professionals. Educates each patient on the use of oxygen, cpap, bipap, common side effects, and the reason for taking them. Explains the terminology and data when patients inquire. Communicates with DME staff the evaluation of patients, what may be appropriate care, and any concerns or instruction for patient safety. Communicates with other Respiratory Therapists when transferring care of all necessary information for continuity of care and patient safety. Assists in the teaching of students. Shares knowledge and insight to improve patient care and/or satisfaction.
