The candidate will do hands-on mechanical testing and failure mode analysis. It will also require innovation around creative and novel testing methodologies.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing Masters of Ph.D
  • Fundamental knowledge of polymer behavior under different conditions
  • Proficient in polymer characterization techniques.
  • Skilled in documenting and presenting findings effectively.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27-July 31, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work in Corning, NY.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding behavior of polymer under different application
  • Conducting rheological experiments in lab for fundamental understanding of different polymers.
  • Identifying, evaluating, and implementing potential improvements to product/material performance. Engaging in projects in various capacities.
  • Compiling, analyzing and presenting results and recommendations on product/process.
  • Identifying and quantifying reliability risks.
  • The intern will collaborate with a scientist in the laboratory to conduct various polymer characterization activities.
  • They will document observations, findings, and results.
  • The role involves working closely with individuals from different teams and departments.
