The candidate will do hands-on mechanical testing and failure mode analysis. It will also require innovation around creative and novel testing methodologies.

Requirements

Currently pursuing Masters of Ph.D
Fundamental knowledge of polymer behavior under different conditions
Proficient in polymer characterization techniques.
Skilled in documenting and presenting findings effectively.
Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27-July 31, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
Be willing to work in Corning, NY.

Responsibilities

Understanding behavior of polymer under different application
Conducting rheological experiments in lab for fundamental understanding of different polymers.
Identifying, evaluating, and implementing potential improvements to product/material performance. Engaging in projects in various capacities.
Compiling, analyzing and presenting results and recommendations on product/process.
Identifying and quantifying reliability risks.
The intern will collaborate with a scientist in the laboratory to conduct various polymer characterization activities.
They will document observations, findings, and results.
The role involves working closely with individuals from different teams and departments.
