About The Position

The Policy Specialist is responsible for researching, developing, and managing internal policies and procedures. This role analyzes policy proposals, evaluates potential impacts and vets new policy content to ensure alignment with federal, state, and local healthcare laws, regulatory standards, and internal quality goals. The specialist acts as a liaison between departments, translating complex regulations into clear, actionable guidelines for staff, and oversees the policy and procedure database (Essentia Document Repository).

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Previous work experience in healthcare setting, with specific experience managing policies and procedures, or a background in compliance or regulatory affairs
  • Strong communication, leadership and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, clinical processes
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong time management to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and build rapport
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, public health, nursing, or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of federal and state healthcare laws and regulations
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards like The Joint Commission
  • Experience with policy management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic health record systems (EHR)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the research, development, and management of an organization’s internal policies and standard operating procedures
  • Analyzes policy proposals, evaluates their potential impacts, and vets new policy content
  • Acts as a liaison between departments, translating complex regulations into clear, actionable guidelines for staff
  • Manages Essentia Health’s policy and procedure database
  • Ensures all policies are aligned with federal, state, and local healthcare law, regulatory standards, and internal quality goals
  • Assist with internal audits by providing documentation and information related to policies and procedures
  • Maintains a regular review cycle for all policies and procedures to ensure they remain current and accurate
  • Participate in committees focused on risk, compliance, and quality to contribute policy expertise
