About The Position

The Policy and Engagement Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing the objectives and mission of the Tennessee Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). This position has two prime responsibilities: To represent NASW-TN on state level policy issues and registered lobbyist for the chapter To support membership recruitment, retention and engagement. The position is full-time with flexible scheduling and may include occasional evenings and weekends. This position requires travel. All travel required by the chapter will be reimbursed. The position is supervised by the Executive Director.

Requirements

  • MSW or BSW degree with two years professional experience
  • Understanding of legislative process
  • Project management and implementation skills
  • Knowledge of professional social work issue
  • Demonstrated commitment to modeling ethical social work practice
  • Demonstrated communication skills with a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated skills in multi-tasking
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to utilize internet and websites for information dissemination
  • Strong commitment to customer/member services

Responsibilities

  • Work with Chapter Executive Director, Legislative Committee and Board of Directors to identify annual legislative priorities for NASW-TN.
  • Engage members in advocacy efforts and provide timely updates on legislative issues and priorities.
  • Prepare Legislative Reports for Legislative Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Implement strategies to address key policy issues including legislative advocacy, lobbying and member mobilization.
  • Utilize Voter Voice to communicate effectively with NASW-TN members on key policy issues.
  • Represent NASW-TN at Tennessee General Assembly providing education, information and testimony as needed.
  • Lead in planning and supporting annual Social Work Day on the Hill.
  • Develop and implement annual membership recruitment and engagement plans in coordination with other staff and board.
  • Manage and stay abreast with local, states, and national NASW membership benefits and changes.
  • Cultivate relationships with current and potential members through various communication channels.
  • Work in partnership with Executive Director and Program Director to identify and develop association programs, research and services to respond to needs of NASW-TN members, other social work professionals and students.
  • Establish relationships and build engagement between chapter and schools of social work in Tennessee through the Ambassador Program
  • Serve as NASW-TN Representative on relevant task forces and groups.
  • Work with Branch chairs to help identify and support programming for local initiatives.
  • Assist with other activities related to Chapter’s ongoing operations.
