About The Position

This is work performing specialized non-sworn law enforcement functions and/or coordinating non-sworn law enforcement support services. This position is responsible for maintenance of an effective and efficient automated records system of police criminal activity information and furnishing of this information through Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. This position is responsible for operating the University Police Emergency Communication Center. Requirements

  • This position requires a High School diploma and six months to one year of experience, or an Associate's degree or and any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • This position requires a Level 2 Background check and a Drug Screen.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains with support personnel the functions of a police model records and automated information system, providing immediate recall of incidents reported or known to the University Police.
  • Maintains automated records on all persons, properties (lost, found, stolen, recovered } and incidents occurring on campus.
  • Assists in redesigning screen formats for data collection, tests and documents computer system applications.
  • Collects all criminal reports, classifies, scores and validates them for data entry into the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR} system in compliance with State and Federal mandates.
  • Supervises the data entry of all collected information and inspects for accuracy.
  • Assembles and analyzes the collected data on a monthly basis for dissemination within the agency to the various sections.
  • Is responsible for FCIC hit validation reports due each month.
  • Determines user specifications to enhance existing programs and makes simple queries to generate statistical surveys and other ad-hoc report as needed from the databases and produces reports on the word processor.
  • Compiles confidential correspondence and daily activity summaries using PC programs.
  • Collaborates with other agencies on the compiling of information for background checks on applicants.
  • Operates/monitors the Hillsborough County enhanced 9-1-1 emergency system, FCIC/NCIC computer system, the Blue light emergency phone system, the University alarm systems and all other equipment in the Communications Center.
  • Receives and evaluates calls from the public requesting police assistance of both emergency and non-emergency natures.
  • Inputs and transmits call information using computer terminal or manual card system.
  • Operates two-way radio to dispatch calls to public safety units, to receive and communicate information.
  • Transmits requests for emergency services and retrieves various data and records.
  • Provides training and direction in proper procedure involving information gathering techniques.
  • Receives, evaluates and disseminates criminal documents and records from local, state, and national crime information centers.
  • Validates and maintain the accuracy of the existing records in the hit files.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Providing training, instruction for OPS support personnel on how to use the automated systems.
  • Assists with fingerprinting University Community members as needed.
  • Create new employee's profiles - Login, password, user rights.
  • Train new employee's on the Records Management System, the Computer Aided Dispatch System, Paperless System, Mobile Client, and Case Management.
  • Fix any problems within the RMS, CAD, Paperless, and Mobile programs.
  • Work closely with Visionair on software problems.
  • Work closely with the computer support analyst to help him update computers and software; help him with any other tasks he may need help with.
  • Test new software and updates for any problems and assess the problems.
  • Break down the daily work: make copies of traffic crash reports - send a copy to Tallahassee and Clerk of the Court, break down traffic citations and bring citations to Temple Terrace Police Department for courier pickup.
  • Make copies of "Hit Files", put " Hit Files" in dispatch, put the Field Contact Cards in dispatch, log the Trespass warnings.
