FUNCTION OF WORK: To oversee a full range of police services on an assigned shift with primary emphasis on the enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing emergency services and crime prevention programs. LEVEL OF WORK: Supervisor SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General from a higher-level police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Direct over Police Officers 1, 2 and 3. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Police Officer 3 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibilities. Differs from Police Lieutenant by the absence of second-line supervisory responsibilities or by serving as shift supervisor in a large university police department. Oversees and evaluates performance of lower-level officers on an assigned shift. Conducts roll call and officer, vehicle, and equipment inspections. Serves as training officer by planning and coordinating training programs. Reviews and signs all reports submitted by lower-level officers. Keeps firearms, armory, and other equipment. Performs all the duties required of lower-level officers as necessary.
