About The Position

Under general supervision from the Police Records Supervisor, maintain documents and perform data entry on a wide variety of criminal and non-criminal police records and materials including incident reports, property reports, affidavits, arrests, bookings, criminal histories, fingerprint cards, warrants, citations, traffic reports, investigative material, and mugshots. At the Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD), we are committed to enhancing community safety, reducing fear of crime, and elevating the quality of life through partnerships and innovative policing initiatives.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
  • Ability to learn basic organization and functions of a municipal law enforcement agency.
  • Ability to analyze data.
  • Ability to work with the general public; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Some assignments in this classification require possession of, or ability to obtain, Notary Public Commission.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Flexibility to work a variety of days and shifts required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of responsible record keeping and computer experience with strong emphasis on data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Sort, file, copy and distribute crime reports, traffic reports, citations and other materials to appropriate personnel and associated criminal justice agencies.
  • Perform public contact work; receive, screen, route and process telephone calls.
  • perform records checks, issue permits and licenses, collect fees, mail report requests to outside agencies in accordance with established records release laws.
  • Provide general information regarding department policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Perform statistical analysis of crime data; produce a wide variety of communication via reports and bulletins including photo line ups, wanted fugitive summaries, stolen vehicle reports and officer safety items.
