See important special instructions below on application requirements Exceptional Benefits: 12 hour shifts - 84 hour pay periods Off every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 13 paid leave days per year, plus vacation and sick time The ability to enroll your children in Alabaster City Schools even if you live outside the city Tier 1 Retirement Systems of Alabama benefits at retirement Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama medical, dental and vision insurance (90% premium paid by City) City paid life insurance and other supplemental plans Retiree insurance paid by the city (65% - 75% depending on service years) Take home vehicle and $900 annual uniform allowance State-of-the-art new police station Application Special Instructions Non-Certified candidate testing will be held 5.22.2026 at 8:00 am - APD building located at 100 11th Ave Southwest, Alabaster 35007 to include a Written Test (all candidates regardless of education background) takes a basic written test and must make a 70 or higher to progress to the Physical Agility Test on the same day. Closed toed shoes required. APOST adopted the Basic Abilities Test (Work Keys Assessment) for all candidates that do not hold an associate degree or higher . -Non-Certified candidates that do not hold an associate degree or higher degree, must register at: Jeffstate.edu to sit for the work keys assessment prior to an offer of a position.
